Lost dogs of the finger lakes

May has been a great month so far and the spring has been very strong. There is still some green up at the shoreline and the dogwoods have lots of new buds on them. The weather has been pretty warm too, which makes it a great time to ride bikes.
The morning of May 1st we got up bright and early, loaded up our bikes and headed to Finger Lake Beach for our annual group ride.
Here are a few photos from that day...
This is a picture of us after our ride. We got to the beach about 7:00am and spent about an hour going back and forth on our bikes.
The bikes went swimming in the lake afterwards.
A little while later we finished up and headed back to the house.
May 1st was also the day that the lake was supposed to start filling up with water, but it didn't happen. It rained so the water stayed in the basements. As it turns out, it was supposed to rain so much that the lake would have never filled. At least not until they got a couple big rain storms last weekend and things started to drain again. I had no idea that was the problem until then.

We also had the opportunity to play beach volleyball again this year. This was our team...
The one on the left is my son, Ben, and the one on the right is his younger brother Luke. That white ball is me :)
We even managed to get a tournament going. We managed to pull out a win, but we were beat by the other team! They had two other kids and the three of them played together like they have been playing since they were little.
May 9th was the first day I felt like I really needed to do something outdoors. On Friday I decided that I was going to head down to the lake and walk around. I made sure to bring my baby carrier though. When I arrived I went to check out the beach. It was just about half-full, but I'm going to be there on weekends, so it was perfect. There was a volleyball game going on, so I sat down and watched for a while. It wasn't too crowded so I didn't need to keep my baby strapped.
That night after dinner, we went to the lake and enjoyed some of the swimming. Then we had some snacks and watched a movie until we decided it was time to call it quits.
We enjoyed the time at the lake, but now the weather's getting hotter and we don't really have the motivation to spend as much time outside as we did a few weeks ago. It's been really nice getting back to this schedule though.

It's time to get the ball rolling here at the Cottage on Mondays. I'm excited to get a new schedule that gives me more time to work on the house and do more with my little one. For example, I got her a pair of running pants yesterday. She's been wanting a pair for a while now. They're supposed to go up to 40-60 pounds, so it's nice that she'll be able to grow into them.
We also got a crib mattress. It's really exciting to have a crib finally in the house, since I've been waiting for her to get to the point where she needs a crib.

One of the big changes at home is that I have two people who don't share a room. Well, one person shares a room with the other, but they do have their own separate rooms. That's what I had all last year, so I wasn't used to it. It was a little weird to sleep on my own in the middle of the night, but I got used to it pretty quickly.
I'm starting to get used to sharing a room, so it'll be interesting to see how that changes things at night. In theory, it should be pretty easy to fall asleep again. I don't have a roommate, so I don't have any distractions or people that I can talk to.

It's Wednesday night, and my sister is here. I had my little one in the sling all day. It was a little hard to juggle and take care of a baby and a toddler all at the same time. That's why I put her in the sling most of the day.
When my little one started to fuss around 5:00, I put her in her crib and got her some formula. After she got her bottle, I laid down with her. It was good to have my sister here to talk to, but she wasn't getting any sleep. I was starting to feel bad for her.
The next thing I knew, the kids were waking me up. It was time for nighty night. I gave my little one a bottle, and laid down with her. When I put her down, I couldn't get back to sleep. I finally drifted off, but I was having vivid dreams. My son was screaming, and my little girl was yelling at me, so I wasn't able to get back to sleep.
In the morning, I felt a little groggy. It was a little difficult to get out of bed, but I did it. I got dressed, took care of my little one and went into the living room. My sister was still sleeping on the couch. That was fine with me. I didn't have to make conversation with her. My sister was there, so I had someone to talk to.
I started watching Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda. I like the show, but, to be honest, I don't know much about the show. I know how to do some of the things they discuss in the show, but not the vast majority. After we ate, I took my little one to the bathroom. While I was in there, my sister called. She asked me to come over and bring her some of my clothes. She told me that my clothes and shoes were scattered all over the floor. I asked her why she didn't bring them to the house. She said that she couldn't bring her stuff over because my mom will call the cops on her. It's not that she was trying to hurt my sister. It was just her mom's way of making a point.
When I got to my sister's, she met me in the garage. She had four bags with her. My clothing was in a pile on the floor. My sister brought everything in the house to the garage. She put everything in a room of the garage, closed the door and went to the neighbor's to get a bed for her. It was then that I thought about my mom calling the cops. There is no telling how much trouble my sister would have had.
My sister's mom has no idea how to treat my sister. I'm just trying to figure out how to handle it. I could be wrong, but I think my sister's mom may be making the wrong assumptions. I think her mind is made up and she is going to keep her stuff there until she gets another place to live. I don't know if that's the right move for us, but I will just have to deal with it for now.

## The Secret Is Not in the Secret
It's never good to wake up with no alarm clock. That's the case for me every morning. My alarm clock would wake me up for work, but it
